Utilization

/team/utilization (Team → Utilization tab) shows billable hours ÷ total hours at three levels — company, department, individual — over the date range you pick.

Reading the dashboard

  • Company KPI tile — your firm's overall utilization. Green stripe = above target, amber = below.
  • By department table — how each team is tracking. Use this to compare Engineering vs Marketing vs Operations.
  • By person table — every active employee sorted by billable hours. The Δ column shows how far they are from the target.

The target line

Default target is 70% (industry standard for consulting delivery roles). Adjust via the Target % input and hit Apply — the target line on each utilization bar moves and Δ recalculates.

Rules of thumb: - Delivery engineers / consultants: 65–75% - Tech leads / senior consultants: 55–70% (more review + mentorship time) - Managers / directors: 30–50% (more admin + people work) - Support / ops roles: not typically tracked as utilization — hide them via role in future

What counts where

  • Billable = work_type of billable (client work you'll invoice for)
  • Internal = internal or training (admin, meetings, learning)
  • Off = off (PTO, sick, holidays)
  • Unclassified events don't count in any of the above. If a team looks lower than expected, they're probably sitting in unclassified — fix their categories or classification rules.

Scope

Managers see themselves + direct reports. Admins see the full company. Individual employees don't have access (keeps cost/utilization data manager-or-above, matching the rest of the app).
